A Little of My Story

So why am I so passionate about USANA? Well, I learned about USANA from New York Times bestselling author Robert Allen. I was listening to his 6-CD series "Multiple Streams of Income," where he discussed mostly real estate investing, tax lien certificates, and the like. But he had a bonus 7^th CD where he dealt specifically with network marketing as an additional stream of income to consider. He explained what it was all about and how to evaluate the right network marketing opportunity for you.

Immediately the defenses went up. Years before I had joined a multilevel marketing company, and my experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. So it took someone with Robert Allen's reputation for me even to take a serious look.

I opened my mind to the possibility and liked what I heard. Unfortunately, I didn't know of any network marketing companies to evaluate. At the end of his CD, though, Robert Allen invited the listener to "cut to the chase" and hear about the one network marketing company he endorses by calling his 800-number. I did so, and a few days later I received an information packet in the mail telling me all about USANA Health Sciences.

It took me only a matter of days to evaluate my options, and I signed up with the Professional Pack—the most expensive way to join and the best value. Since then I have enjoyed exceptionally good health on the products, but I was slow to pick up on the exceptional business opportunity and didn't do much with the business aspect of USANA for nearly five years. (If you decide to join my team, I will encourage you not to make the same mistake I did!)

The major reason I was slow to embrace USANA as a business was because I allowed my focus to get diluted by quite a few other opportunities over the years. I don't know how it happens, but once you join a network marketing company, other companies come out of the woodwork and bombard you with their own pitches.

If only I had kept in mind why I joined USANA in the first place, then I never would have let my mind wander and seek greener pastures elsewhere. (Pardon the multiple mixed metaphors). But I have learned that there is a silver lining to every dark cloud, and my experiences have made me uniquely qualified to write a book on network marketing.

My intention is for the book to be a generic resource that anyone in network marketing can use for training or prospecting purposes. Like Robert Allen, I plan to include my own toll-free number for people to call if they want to "cut to the chase" and learn about USANA. How to Evaluate a Network Marketing Opportunity

The fact of the matter is that there are many excellent network marketing companies out there. There are many not-so-excellent ones, too. USANA Health Sciences is the best . . . for me. Whether it is the best for you or not, well, that is for you to decide.

To help you decide, here are the six areas you need to investigate:

1. The product
2. The industry
3. The company
4. Market timing
5. The compensation plan
6. The specific team you'll be joining

Below is my own analysis of USANA and how it measures up in these six areas.

The Product

USANA has three distinct product lines:

• Micronutrients—A complete line of nutrition supplements: vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants
• Macronutrients—Low-glycemic meal-replacement shakes and snack bars for weight management
• Sensé Beautiful Science—Anti-aging skin care products that deliver nutrients through the skin

The common thread is cellular nutrition, delivering the proper nutrients to your cells in three different ways.

NutriSearch Corporation has given USANA's flagship Essentials™ and HealthPak™ 100 products their coveted Five-Star Gold Medal rating in the NutriSearch Comparative Guide to Nutrition Supplements™. Over 1500 U.S. and Canadian supplements were scientifically rated and compared, and only four companies had products that merited this rating. And of them, only USANA is marketed through network marketing.

The Industry

Economist/entrepreneur Paul Zane Pilzer predicted early this decade that the health and wellness industry, then a $200 billion industry, would grow to a $1 trillion industry by the year 2010. We are on pace to do just that.

A trillion dollars is such a large amount that it defies full comprehension. Clearly, the slightest sliver of that pie would provide a comfortable life style for generations to come.

The Company

USANA Health Sciences is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the majority of nutrition companies are located. Knowing that, it is more obviously significant that USANA has won the Utah Best of State awards on multiple occasions, along with many other accolades:

Market Timing

It is better to be at the beginning of a trend than at the end of one. We've already seen that the health and wellness industry is soon to reach $1 trillion. The good news is that, as the baby boomer generation continues to age, now starting to reach retirement, health and wellness is likely only to increase in importance in the near and medium term.

The baby boomers have driven most of the significant trends since the middle of the last century. USANA's products are certainly in high demand for an aging population that largely does not want to age. Moreover, USANA's business opportunity is becoming more and more desirable as baby boomers reach retirement age. The current economy has seen many people's 401K's dwindle, forcing many to remain in the work force against their will. The USANA business opportunity can be a wonderful alternative source of retirement funds for many. I am counting on it to be my own "pension"—and a generous one at that.

The Compensation Plan

USANA uses a binary compensation plan, where there are at most two people directly under you before you need to start placing people under them. The long and the short of this is that it promotes maximum cooperation and team-building.
